We are thrilled to be able to offer new Yahoo! e-mail domain choices to Internet users, along with the same great Web mail experience that hundreds of millions of people have already come to expect.
John Kremer, vice president, Yahoo! Mail
Yahoo! Mail now has more than 260 million users worldwide (according to comScore Media Metrix, April 2008). As a result, many desirable e-mail addresses have already been taken for the yahoo.com domain, as well as for localized versions of the namespace in countries around the world. With the two new e-mail domain choices, Yahoo! hope that they will make millions of new e-mail addresses available to the online community.
RocketMail was one of the very first free Webmail services. In 1997, Yahoo! acquired it and built the first version of Yahoo! Mail based on RocketMail technology. Some of the original RocketMail users chose to keep their RocketMail IDs to show that they had been among the first users of Webmail.
The new domains (ymail.com and rocketmail.com) will offer the same Yahoo! Mail features such as unlimited storage, integrated instant messaging, free text messaging, and localized versions around the world. To get the name you want in Yahoo! Mail, you can go to this address: http://new.mail.yahoo.com/addresses.
